The City of Elizabeth is in the process of creating their 10-year Master Plan. Groundwork Elizabeth will provide opportunities for youth voices to coordinate policy proposals to mitigate the effects of this pandemic and prepare the community for probable similar experiences, while educating them about the positive difference that civic actions can make.
Policymakers can be busy people. Sergio Granados was scheduled to be one of two Civic leaders who would attend a Zoom meeting, scheduled for an hour of time to be shared with an individual from the Board of Education, but had to back out at the last minute. Sergio exceeded expectations and stayed with the group for nearly 2 hours, carefully listening to their concerns, answering questions, and assuring them that their work and suggestions will be listened to. 10 days ago our youth visited City Council and were able to be heard by the Council and the Elizabeth public during the speaking section of the meeting. One of the Councilman filmed the youth himself via his cellphone! Also, a few days prior to this we had a private meeting with Patricia Perkins Auguste, an Elizabeth City Councilwoman.
